Sancerre Welcomes Winemakers

The town of Sancerre (18 Cher, Centre-Val de Loire) welcomes winemakers from across France for their annual Sancerre Wine Fair (Foire aux Vins de France) for the weekend of 25 – 26 August 2018

sancerre wine fairThis has been a tradition stretching back over 40 years and this year over 60 winemakers from other parts of France will be there. I suspect there is a bit of a competitive element here, as Sancerre winemakers, as elsewhere think that their wines are the best.

But for a tasting glass at €5.00 you can get to meet some winemakers and try a wide variety of wines in the attractive setting of the town overlooking the Loire river on one side and a stunning panorama of vines on the other.

Sancerre is typically a highly-rated dry white wine from the Sauvignon Blanc grape, thought to go particularly well with food (especially fish) –  although some red and rosé is made from Pinot Noir.

For more info on the Sancerre Wine Fair see www.ville-sancerre.com

Find the best rates for hotels in Sancerre including Hotel Le Panoramic, which, despite looking fairly modern from the front, has great views over the vines and the valley at the rear.

There is a good selection of Sancerre Wines in the UK at Majestic Wine (local warehouses and online)
