Hauts de France Prefecture: Amiens

Named after the Somme river, which exits to the English Channel (Manche) at St Valery. Forever associated with the horrors of World War I, many areas of the departement are a haven of peace and home to a rich wildlife, especially around the Bay of the Somme. The capital city, Amiens offers a wealth of art and history and is particularly famous for its magnificient Gothic cathedral, listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
