Between Toulouse and Montauban is the small wine appellation of FRONTON (31 Haut Garonne, Occitanie), which celebrates with its Fronton Wine Festival (Fronton Saveurs et senteurs) 19 – 21 August 2022
For 3 days the village celebrates its unique wines (Fronton AC) and other local produce, with music, market stalls and wine judging – plus the inevitable “traditional” ceremonies which are designed to impart some mystique for the wines from this region, where rugby is almost as important as wine!?.
Previously known as the Côtes du Frontonnais this is the closest wine area to Toulouse, but although barely 30km from the city, this is a decidedly rural area. The Fronton wine (red and rosé) is primarily based on the local Negrette grape which is seldom found elsewhere – the rosés can be very fruity whilst the best reds can be rich and smooth. see www.vins-de-fronton.com/
