Avignon Wine Harvest

Although the city of Avignon (84 Vaucluse, Provence PACA) is not obviously peppered with vines except for a few small fields around the Cathedral, the surrounding area is a rich hinterland of wine delights including the Côtes du Rhône, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Tavel etc. Accordingly the local winemakers celebrate the beginning of the Avignon wine harvest with a Ban des Vendanges wine festival on 31 August 2024 see http://compagnonscotesdurhone.fr

Another Côtes-du-Rhône wine Festival is held in Avignon in November: Millévin marking the official release of the new Côtes-du-Rhône vintage.

For 2014, the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône celebrated their 20th anniversary and put on a big party at the Rocher des Doms. For this important anniversary, the programme focuses on the theme of renewal and dynamics – this year festivities take place all day long.

10:30 am The Procession of the Bacchic confraternities goes from Saint Agricol church to Notre Dame des Doms church, where a Vintner Mass will be held in the Provencal language. .

3pm: the grapes in the Palace of the Popes vineyard are harvested. Special events in the gardens at the Rocher des Doms (pedal carts, Guignol puppet theatre, hurdy-gurdy, games…). .

From 6pm, gourmand market at the Rocher des Doms with regional products for sale to compose your own picnic on site, and enjoy with a glass of the Cuvée des Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône, also on sale on site. . During the evening, there will also be a discovery tasting of the wines from Plan de Dieu (Côtes du Rhône Villages). And a drawing sponsored by the Associated Appellation where you can win wine-related prizes and a pressée and tasting of the juice of the grape. . 6:30pm : proclamation of the 18th Grape Harvest, and 9pm, the dance to celebrate the start of the Harvest, with the Bandits Manchots until midnight.Free and open to all.

Set against the fantastic backdrop of the Palais des Papes in the heart of Avignon, this promises to be a most enjoyable event.

Avignon Wine Harvest – A fun and festive event which celebrates the start of the grape harvest. Festivities are planned all day long ! The Bacchic confraternities parade, Vintner Mass, Harvest Proclamation, gourmand market, bal. Free and open to all.
The Harvest Proclamation events : the proclamation that opens the harvest takes place, followed by a gourmet market and the Great Harvest Dance until midnight. There will be music, art exhibits, and food and wine pairings…
