Sedan (08 Ardennes. Grand Est) is a name that haunts the French with memories of the battles of the Great War and the Napoleonic Wars in Eastern France.
Sedan has always been a crucial point, situated on the River Meuse and just inside the border with Belgium. Hence the medieval fortified castle – le Chateau Fort, the largest in Europe (a fortress of 35,000 square metres) open to the public all year round (entrance fee payable).
In the Spring (11 – 12 May 2024) Sedan Castle also serves as a backdrop for a medieval Fair held against the imposing and intimidating setting of the castle courtyard with jousting, sword fights, music, dancing and feasting – and a medieval market! – see www.explore-grandest.com
Between the main trunk roads of the North of Europe, is situated Sedan, the second city of the department of the Ardennes. Lined by the Meuse and dominated by the forest, Sedan has a green living environment and also a unique architectural heritage steeped in history. We invite you to come to the discovery of Sedan, be welcome!
Beyond being an impressive and intimidating fortress, it also houses a hotel and a bar/café.
