Although Toulouse (31 Haut-Garonne, Occitanie) is often referred to as the “Pink City” it also has a claim to be called the “Violet City” as every winter the city celebrates the Violette de Toulouse. The Fete de la Violette Festival takes place on the weekend of 3 – 4 February 2024 in the Place du Capitole.

Discover delightful bouquets of violets from “Toulouse” and “Tourrettes sur Loup” to fill your home with sweet fragrances, or delight a loved one.

In the language of flowers, Violets express delicacy and depth of feeling. It reminds a loved one that you are thinking of her and allows you to declare your love in complete discretion.

The Municipality of Toulouse’s stall welcomes you and presents part of the collection awarded the “National Collection” label in 2002. A special space has been reserved for it this year. Throughout the day, children will be able to decorate flower pots and plant a Toulouse violet from cuttings taken by staff at the Municipal Greenhouses.

Every year, the Violet Festival is organised by the Council in February, during the flowering period of this highly scented little mauve flower

Violets are the emblem of Toulouse and were grown by market gardeners to the north of the city from the 19th Century. A few growers still grow them today. “La Violette de Toulouse” is a registered trademark that comes in all forms (sweets, perfume, liqueur,) and offers an excellent excuse for a party and an exploration of Toulouse, the city of violets!
