The Loire town of Saumur (49 Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire) takes seriously celebrating the wines of the region – mainly sparkling Saumur wine and the red Saumur-Champigny in September each year. Saumur Wine Festivities inculude:-
Fete de Vendanges – 8 September 2024 – celebrating the annual harvest (by hand) at the Chateau de Saumur – see Fete de Vendanges
- Festivini takes place between June and September 2022 – The Festival of wine! – A celebration in and around Saumur to mark the grape harvest season – Markets, concerts and other entertainment, walking in the beautiful Loire valley, horse-riding, plus oenology lessons, wine tasting and other gastronomic delights. The red wines of Saumur Champigny are made from the Cabernet Franc grape, whilst the whites (sparkling and still) are made with Chenin Blanc. Cabernet de Saumur is a rosé wine, whilst Coteaux de Saumur is a medium sweet white wine. However, if is the dry sparkling wines of Saumur which are probably best known and offer an intesting alternative to Champagne. The red Saumur – Champigny wines have been fashionable in Paris for a few years.
