Region: Brittany (Bretagne) Prefecture: Quimper The present Finistere department consists of the historical region of Léon and parts of Cornouaille and Trégor, both parts of pre-revolutionary Brittany. The name Finistère derives from the Latin Finis Terræ, meaning end of the earth. In England, the far west of Cornwall is called Land's End. This is far west Brittany and feels quite un-French. Breton survives most strongly as a spoken and written language and this part of Brittany is firmly part of the Celtic Fringe. Holiday Accommodation in the Finistère département: Hotels, B&Bs, self-catering Finistère tourisme |
