The town of Clisson (44 Loire- Atlantique, Pays de la Loire) some 20km/13 miles southeast of Nantes holds an annual festival on the first Sunday of December to celebrate the new vintage of the local wine, Muscadet on 1 December 2024.
The event is called Nouvel An du Muscadet (Muscadet’s New Year) and involves music, wine and food – especially oysters which go so well with this crisp dry white wine. Although the wine gained a less favourable reputation a few years ago for being very dry. thin and acidic most producers now offer a richer wine, especially if it is “sur lie“.
Most of the better wine is labelled Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine, although there are a few special terroirs such as Muscadet-Coteaux de la Loire and Muscadet-Côtes de Grandlieu
