One winemaker in the Côte Chalonnais in Burgundy has sponsored a balloon to promote his wines. Domaine Pigneret, which looks to be a fairly traditional vineyard – the website shows horse-drawn machinery on its front page – has taken to the air to attract visitors to its domaine at Moroges, just west of Chalon-sur-Saône. The winery produces Bourgogne white and red and Crémant (sparkling)
Well it works – I noticed it and visited the website and will visit the domaine next time I’m in the region. It is reassuring that even in this most traditional wine production area, winemakers are being adventurous and are trying to make their produce more accessible.
The wine ballooon has been seen at the International Balloon Festival at Chalon-sur-Saone – see latest dates
