Region: Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Prefecture: Lyon Rhône is a department in the central Eastern region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, named after the river Rhône. The River Saône joins the Rhône in Lyon. Dominated by the sprawling city of Lyon, the departement stretches north almost to Macon and hence includes most of the Beaujolais wine region - nearer to Lyon the local wine is Coteaux du Lyonnais.
