The wines of Alsace are classified by grape variety; some areas have recognised named places (lieu-dits) which are often indicative of a distinctive “terroir”
The blended wine of different grape varieties is known as “Edelzwicker“. The better quality wines are single varieties such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Muscat d’Alsace, Sylvaner ,Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris or Pinot Noir,
Vendanges Tardives/Sélection de Grains Nobles: Late-harvest/botrytised sweet wines, with intense, complex aromas, powerful structure and a long finish
There is also a good sparkling wine from Alsace : Crémant d’Alsace
Stay in an Alsace Wine Village at Eguisheim
