The Villes et Villages Fleuris is a national scheme whereby villages and towns compete to be awarded the French equivalent of “Britain in Bloom” awards – although seemingly more permanent than the British scheme.

Awarded for the consistent use of flowers, plants and green spaces to enhance the local environment, the siting of the sign at the entrance to the town or village is usually a reliable indicator that there are well-thought out schemes especially on the centre of the place which will be pleasant to sit or stroll in – sometimes in the heat of summer this can be most welcome.
