In the Perigord there is a Knife Festival (Fete du Couteau) 5 – 6 August 2023 at Nontron (24 Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine)
This event brings together artisans and collectors from across Europe to celebrate the skill which goes into the production of hunting knives and the great variety of types and purposes to which they are put.
There will be demonstrations of the forge-masters’ skill and how specialist knives are used – plus many opportunities to purchase that special knife. Plus music, dancing and a farmers market!
Nontron is about 45 km northwest of Perigueux on the way to Angouleme.

The Nontron knife is a traditional wooden-handled knife manufactured in the village of Nontron in the Dordogne area of southern France, in a tradition said to date back to the 15th century. The handle is usually of boxwood. Nontron knives are decorated with pokerwork designs based on a distinctive logo, and are now highly prized as a style item. The Nontron penknife is similar in appearance to the cheaper and much more widespread Opinel knife, though the blades and handles are more various in shape. Nontron also manufacture a variety of table cutlery, chefs knives, and carving knives. Many of these use the traditional boxwood handle but others use more modern materials compatible with dishwashers.wikipedia
