The town of Duras (47 Lot et Garonne, Nouvelle Aquitaine) boasts an impressive Chateau on a promontory overlooking the countryside. It is a walled town with a medieval centre in the heart of the Côtes de Duras wine appellation.

Each year the town holds an annual wine festival – Duras fête son vin (Côtes de Duras wine fair) – this year it is on 6 August 2022 when the town is packed with winegrowers stalls.

The best known wine from the region is a white, dry Sauvignon, but they also produce red, rosé and sparkling wines. The local Co-operative makes some very good wines and there are numerous individual growers making good Bordeaux-style wines at keen prices.

To the south is the Côtes du Marmandais, to the north is Bergerac, whilst to the west is Bordeaux.

Recommended vineyards:-

The best known wines of the Cotes de Duras as the white Sauvignon Blancs – crisp, refreshing dry white wines, which represent great value for money – but you will also find some reds and rosé wines too. Much of the production is through the local co-operative cellars known as Berticot where quality is generally very good. Plenty of small independent producers also flourish.
