Castres is the birthplace of the famous socialist leader Jean Jaurès and home to the important Goya Museum of Spanish painting.The town is probably best known nowadays for its Rugby Union (rugby à quinze) team, which is one of the top European teams. In this area the local wine is Gaillac.
