Every summer the town of Cahors (46 Lot, Midi-Pyrenees) hosts its “Blues Festival” (not Fete des Bleus!) 12 – 15 July 2023
Cahors is one of our favourite french towns nestled in the bend of the River Lot and now mercifully by-passed by both the N20 and new A20 autoroute between Limoges and Montauban/Toulouse.
In addition to the main events and concerts for serious Blues enthusiasts, earlier years have seen more street and café blues music to waft you through the town (Le Blues au coeur de la ville). I’m not really very knowledgeable about Blues music, although I enjoy it when I’m in the mood – so “Freddy Red and the Hot Rails” or “The Hoochie Coochie Men” don’t mean much to me – but I do remember “Canned Heat” (“On the Road Again”) a legendary American Blues/Rock band from the late 60s who are appearing – for more on the Cahors Blues Festival see www.cahorsbluesfestival.com
B&Bs, self-catering and Hotels in Cahors such as the riverside Hotel Chartreuse, in a peaceful setting on the River Lot, yet within walking distance of the town centre, the market, Cathedral and the Valentré Bridge.
Or for something more grand try the Chateau de Mercuès – a classy chateau with its own wine, vineyards and cellars in a stunning position above the River Lot a few kilometres west of Cahors!
By train/TGV to Toulouse then local connection – or slower train direct from Paris(Austerlitz)
