Balloon FestivalStay in an English run B&B in Burgundy and see the local Balloon Festival 21 – 23 June 2024 at Chalon sur Saône (71 Saône -et-Loire, BFC)

John and Carolyn Scallan run their B&B in Eastern Burgundy and offer both good accommodation and really useful advice to get the best out of your visit to Burgundy e.g.:-
“News from the East is that the Montgolfiades (Hot air Balloon Festival) is being run this year at Chalon sur Saône , about 35 kms away from Sens-sur-Seille (
71 Saone-et-Loire, BFC).
More than 80 balloons should take to the air this year presenting an impressive sight as they launch. The French refer to balloons as Montgolfiades after the Montgolfier brothers who were the first to launch a manned ascent in a balloon in the late 18th Century.

The event is supported by local winemakers, hence plenty of opportunities to try the local Cotes Chalonnaise wines (and Burgundy crus such as Rully, Givry, Mercurey and Montagny and others) – although not advisable if you are going to pilot a balloon! You can get a taste of ballooning at the Festival.

The event is held beside the Saône river on the Prairie Saint-Nicolas, in the heart of Chalon sur Saône .
