Auvillar was nominated as one of France’s favourite villages by viewers to France3 TV Channel in 2018.
A stopping place on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella, Auvillar, south east of Agen, is also classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France – Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. – “a port on the Garonne river”.
Auvillar bears taces of its dual religious and trading role. Uniquely in the SouthWest, its centrepiece is the circular covered market/corn exchange standing on Tuscan columns, built in 1824. This is set in a triangular plaza dating from the Middle Ages with 15th and 17th Century red-brick mansions.
