December 2024 – France is introducing new free flow (flux libre) tolls, designed to avoid congestion at toll booths (péages) on autoroutes.
No more toll barriers! Gantries equipped with cameras, sensors and antennas, positioned above the lanes identify:
- Your vehicle by its registration plate or your electronic toll badge. (ncluding non-French plates)
- The category of your vehicle (car, heavy goods vehicle, motorcycle, etc.)
- Based on this information, the computer system calculates the toll amount corresponding to your journey that you will have to pay.
- Once you arrive at your destination, you must go online to pay your tolls within 72 hours maximum after your passage. ( the fines for late payment can be high!)
- OR register beforehand on the relevant website
- OR sign up for a Telepéage account
- SANEF is the autoroute operator for the motorways in Northern France (A1, A13, A16, A26 etc) where you can find out more www.sanef.com (in English)
