Toulon (83 Var, Provence PACA) is a large navy town lacking some of the charm of other provencal coastal towns. However this is Provence and the Mediterranean so it does have a lot going for it.
In Spring (22 – 24 March 2024) it holds la fête des Vins et de la Gastronomie – this Bacchus Festival has now been running over 20 years! Dionysus is equated with Bacchus as the Greek God of male fertility, wine, and growth! – hence Bacchanalia!
Whilst it may not quite qualify as a mythical orgy, you should be able to try numerous local delicacies and wines – no charge for entry, just €4 for a glass for wine samples!
