The town of Carcassonne (11,Aude, Occitanie) presents the Carcassonne Festival (Festival de Carcassonne) 5 – 31 July 2022 – a music and arts festival in the streets of the city , often with a Spanish vibe with flamenco dancing and music and wine!
Of 120 performances, 80 are free of charge! In just 10 years, the Festival de Carcassonne has established itself as one of the 10 biggest French festivals and has become the landmark cultural event for the South of France. The Festival is constantly changing, growing every year both in terms of its ambitious programme, stages and reputation, which now extends beyond France.
During the festival almost one hundred concerts and shows will be on offer , including French and international variety shows, theatre, circus, dance, jazz, opera and classical, 80 of which are free, in prestigious venues around the city. The 2015 line-up included Sting, Julio Iglesias, and Lang Lang, and ageing French Rock star Johnny Hallyday! 2019 saw concerts by the likes of Sting, Liam Gallagher, Black Eyed Peas and Joan Baez!

Over 700,000 visitors crowd together on the banks of the Aude to watch this incredible fireworks display.For over 25 minutes starting at 10.30pm you can watch colourful pyrotechnics with a final spectacular bouquet of over 1200 bursts of fire in 6 seconds over a frontage of 600 metres.
On 14th August 1898, the « Cadets de Gascogne » entered Carcassonne. This delegation was made up of literary, artistic and political personalities. Then, the city of Carcassonne organised a grand feast in honour of these prestigious visitors. To conclude the festivities, they used Bengal lights to simulate a fire and transform the Cité into an enormous shimmering stone. It was such a success that they decided to keep this tradition of fire going, and to do the same thing again every year on 14 July at 10.30pm www.tourism-carcassonne.co.uk
