For many the black and white photos of Robert Doisneau 
encapsulate a vision of France as we romantically wish to remember it in the 1950s.
In Avignon this summer (18 June – 11 November 2009) the Musee Angladon-Dubreujeaud is showing a collection of his photos of other artists (including Picasso, Braque and Utrillo) in their studios. These are 55 seldom-seen images which look at the artists somewhat differently, and Doinseau was a major figure in French photography.
Be warned that he is a very popular artist – an exhibition of his work in Paris in 2006 was sold out.
The museum is also worth seeing for some of its other treasures including Van Gogh, Modigliani, Degas and Cezanne.
