Loupiac (33 Gironde, Aquitaine) is the home of some of the best sweet wines of Bordeaux, although Sauternes will always claim to be the king of dessert wines. Journées Gourmandes Loupiac et Foie Gras Festival of Loupiac and Foie Gras 23 -24 November 2024 – see https://vins-loupiac.com
Loupiac wines are white wines made in an area on the northern bank of the Garonne river, south-east of the city of Bordeaux, whereas Sauternes and Barsac are grown on the other side of the river. Here the grapes used can include Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris and being close to the river benefit from the autumnal mists which encourage botrytis.
On the last weekend of November the appellation holds a gourmet weekend, matching their wines with foie gras, and with many wineries opening their doors to the public – Journées Gourmandes Loupiac Foie Gras.
