The wine town of Ampuis (69 Rhône, ARA) celebrates the wines of the northern Rhône valley with its Marché aux vins d’Ampuis 19 -22 January 2024
This is the land where Syrah is king (Côte-Rotie, Hermitage) – rich, elegant red wines so different from the wines of the southern Rhône valley. The continental climate of the northern Rhône contrasts with the much warmer Mediterranean climate of the south and tends to produce wines with more of a floral character. Viognier can also be in the blend, and is used for the richly aromatic dry white Condrieu.
The vines are grown on the steep-sided slopes of the Rhône river south of Vienne.
The wine market features 60 wine producers from Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, Hermitage, Saint-Péray and Croze-Hermitage.
