On the weekend of 1 – 2 June 2024<\/strong><\/span> the village of Sainte Maure<\/strong> (37 Indre-et-Loire, Centre Val de Loire<\/em>) between Chinon<\/strong> and Loches<\/strong> celebrates the local goat’s cheese (Sainte Maure de Touraine) with a 2 day festival. with plenty of opportunity for eating, drinking, dancing and music – learn more about this cheese and about the “guest” Cheese Region <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cheese is an aged Goats Cheese – quite different to the fresh goats milk cheeses you normally see. It is cylindrical in shape, often covered with ash and with a straw running through the middle, which helps it to mature. It has Appellation Controll\u00e9e<\/em> (AOC) status which means that only cheese from this areas can be so called, and there are strict rules on its content and making.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to the Dorling Kindersley guide to French Cheeses (Eyewitness Companions)<\/a>\"\" this cheese is “mature, balanced, round with salt sourness and an aroma of walnut”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
