We tend to think of the Rose as a quintessentially English flower, but the French have their moments with Rose Days (Journ\u00e9es de la Rose<\/em>). Avignon<\/strong> (84 Vaucluse, Provence<\/em>) celebrates the rose with its Altera Rosa<\/a> Festival every other year in May, whilst in the north the Royal Abbey of Chaalis <\/strong>near Senlis<\/strong> (60 Oise, Hauts de France<\/em>) throws its own Rose festival in June<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaalis<\/strong> Abbey was a French Cistercian abbey founded in 1136 by Louis VI of France. There had previously been a Benedictine monastery in the same place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Journees de la Rose<\/em><\/strong> festival runs from 7 – 9 June 2024 <\/strong><\/span>in the delightful (and usually peaceful) gardens of the abbey – you’ll be greeted by a vast display of roses, be able to talk to rose experts, see an exhibition of photos and attend workshops on perfume and flower arranging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rose Garden is open daily<\/strong><\/span> all year except Christmas and New Year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fontaine-Chaalis<\/strong> is about 50km northeast of Paris<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
