The C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne is an extensive wine-producing area yielding a wide range of wine qualities and styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generally, the better wines come from the “villages” on the hillsides of the Valley – such as Vacqueyras<\/strong>, Gigondas<\/strong> and Beaumes-de-Venise,<\/strong> a collection of attractive, Provencal wine vicullages. There are many excellent small producers, of which our favourite has to be Domaine la Fourmone<\/a><\/strong> just north of Vacqueyras<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With tree-lined shaded streets, Vacqueyras<\/strong> has a number of hotels and caf\u00e9\/restaurants, a village with an ancient centre which is interesting to explore. Nearby Beaumes-de-Venise <\/strong>is also fascinating to explore with its narrow alleyways leading up to the top of the hill around which the village clusters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both villages host good “caves- cooperatives<\/em>“, where you can taste the range of wines on offer, and at keen prices. A recent innovation in both vllages has been the addition of a restaurant linked to the Co-op, offering a local menu designed to complement the local wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Beaumes-de-Venise produces red, white and ros\u00e9 wines, but is best known for its delightful dessert Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise,<\/strong> whereas the dominant wines in Vacqueyras are rich, smooth reds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area is north of Avignon<\/strong> (84 Vaucluse, PACA <\/em>), and close to Chateauneuf-du-Pape<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hotel Domaine de Cabasse, Seguret<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A bit further north in Seguret <\/strong> is the Domaine de Cabasse<\/a> – a family-run wine estate with a hotel<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An excellent hotel just outside the village of Gigondas<\/strong> is the Hotel Montmirail<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and the B&B Chateau le Martinet <\/a>at Violes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
