Combining wine and jazz in the attractive old town of St Emilion<\/strong> (33 Gironde, Nouvelle Aquitaine<\/em>) sounds superb, when the St Emilion Jazz Festival<\/strong> hits town 28 – 30 June 2019<\/span><\/del>. Unfortunately there will be no Jazz Festival in 2020!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike much of the rest of Bordeaux<\/strong>, the village of St Emilion<\/strong> is worth a visit to wander around the streets, enjoy the views, taste some wine and listen to some jazz. Vineyards surround the town with its rich history and wine heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saint-\u00c9milion’s exceptional wines are due to the great diversity of its terroirs. The amazing nuances can be attributed to remarkably varied geology (limestone, clay-limestone, gravel, and sandy soils) and a microclimate ideally suited to winegrowing. This unique geology, combined with loving care in the vineyard, results in ripe, healthy (predominately Merlot) grapes. The infinite variety of Saint-\u00c9milion wines is also due to the art of blending different proportions of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec with Merlot. This makes for a huge spectrum of aromas and flavours highly appreciated by wine lovers around the world. The fact that the wines of Saint-\u00c9milion are respected all over the planet is in due in no small part to the great job done by the Jurade, whose actions have had a major impact in France and abroad. As early as 1884, local producers established the first syndicat viticole (winegrowers association) in France. This was just one of many steps taken in Saint-\u00c9milion over the years to enhance the production, promotion, and sale of the town’s world-class wines.The Syndicat Viticole created two appellations: Saint-\u00c9milion and Saint-\u00c9milion Grand Cru. They also instituted a classification enabling wines in the Saint-\u00c9milion Grand Cru appellation to attain status as a Grand Cru Class\u00e9, Premier Grand Cru Class\u00e9 B, or Premier Grand Cru Class\u00e9 A.<\/em>
