\"Jardin<\/a><\/p>\n

Lille<\/strong> (59 Nord, Hauts de France<\/em>) is a big and vibrant northern French city which is well worth a visit \u2013 but it\u2019s not somewhere I associate with peace and tranquility.<\/p>\n

We go most years to the Independent Winemakers Fair held in the Lille Grand Palais every November (see wine festivals calendar<\/strong><\/a>) and stay in city centre hotels \u2013 all very convenient for the wine fair, shops, restaurants etc.<\/p>\n

But there is another option, which offers a bit of respite from the buzz of the city centre, but without losing ease of access.<\/p>\n

The Jardin d\u2019Alix<\/strong><\/a> (Alix\u2019s garden) Chambres d\u2019Hote (B&B) is in Tourcoing<\/strong>, part of the greater Lille conurbation, North East of Lille<\/strong> city centre. The stylish accommodation is set \u201c<\/em>amid a large garden with mature trees and rose bushes \u2013 a little piece of countryside close to the city.\u201d <\/em>The other bonus is <\/span>that the property lies within 20 minutes reach of Lille\u2019s historic centre, thanks to the tramway<\/a> which leaves from just outside! <\/span><\/p>\n

\"laAn added bonus means that you will also be near to the quite stunning Roubaix Piscine<\/strong> \u2013 the Museum of Art and Industry (Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Art et d\u2019Industrie de Roubaix<\/strong>) housed in an Art Deco swimming pool \u2013 a conversion undertaken by the same architect who transformed an old railway station into the fabulous Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay in Paris. It is worth visiting for the building itself, but the museum exhibits and paintings are seriously good \u2013 see http:\/\/www.roubaix-lapiscine.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n
