Bastide towns are characterised by a grid of narrow streets, closely packed houses and usually an impressive open square (place) with arcades round 4 sides and will often include a covered market hall. Over 300 were built over 150 years from the beginning of the 13th century.<\/p>\n<p>In August <strong>Monflanquin<\/strong> its Medieval Heritage with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tourisme-lotetgaronne.com\/fr\/detail\/fetes-et-manifestations\/fetes-et-manifestations\/?objRetourCode=FMA&amp;idOffer=FMAAQU047FS00B1M\">Journ\u00e9es M\u00e9di\u00e9vales<\/a> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>15-16 August 2019<\/strong><\/span>) &#8211; music, costumes, knights on horseback, medieval music and falconry displays !<br \/>\n<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/monflanquin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5660 alignnone\" title=\"monflanquin\" src=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/07\/monflanquin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a>Monflanquin<\/strong> <em>(Nouvelle Aquitaine<\/em>) is one of the best preserved &#8211; although it is a living village not a museum or tourist attraction. And it does have its market day (Thursdays) and during the summer months there is also an evening market <em>(march\u00e9 nocturne)<\/em> in the Place des Arcades.<br \/>\nAlso in Monflanquin is the <strong>Mus\u00e9e des Bastides<\/strong> &#8211;  an interesting little museum explaining the development and philosophy of the bastides &#8211; visit the museum and then see the real thing! see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gem.monflanquin.over-blog.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.gem.monflanquin.over-blog.com\/<\/a><br \/>\n<strong> <a
