La Gacilly,<\/strong> (56 Morbihan, Bretagne<\/em>) is synonymous with the late Yves Rocher<\/strong> who created and ran his cosmetics empire in this charming Morbihan village; It is also renowned for its arts and crafts. Created in 2004, La Gacilly Photo Festival has become Europe\u2019s largest open-air photography festival, welcoming over 300,000 visitors.
Over four months every summer, the Breton village of La Gacilly is transformed into a real-life open-air exhibition gallery that is accessible to all, free of charge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The streets, alleyways and gardens of La Gacilly become open-air galleries that are fully accessible, as the photographs featured part in the Festival are placed in the heart of a living and breathing space that is constantly in motion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Although the photo festival is highly recommended, the viilage is worth a detour regardless!<\/p>\n\n\n

Yves Rocher<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yves Rocher,<\/strong> who died in 2009, founded his cosmetics company in his hometown in 1958; it went on to become a global billion-euro business. The company, which grows, makes and distributes its own products, is the area\u2019s biggest employer. Visit the HQ where you can watch a film about Yves Rocher\u2019s history then wander around the botanical garden where you\u2019ll find 1100 species of plant. There\u2019s an on-site shop in case you want to buy some goodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Gr\u00e9e des Landes, Eco Spa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

 <\/strong>In 2009, Yves Rocher<\/strong> opened an eco-friendly spa hotel, La Gr\u00e9e des Landes<\/a>, where residents and day visitors can indulge in relaxing treatments using the company\u2019s natural products. The hotel has a gourmet restaurant, which uses organic and local products, where diners can enjoy panoramic views over the gardens; the site is a designated bird and butterfly reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art, craft and photos <\/strong>La Gacilly\u2019s narrow streets are jam-packed with artists and craftsmen of all types, from puppet makers to jewellery designers and from potters to glass blowers. Among them is British artist Anne Smith, official painter to the French Navy, whose work can be seen at the Galerie du Chat Noir. The town is also known for its annual photo festival (Festival Photo La Gacilly <\/em>from 21 June – 3 November 2024)<\/strong><\/span> France\u2019s largest outdoor photographic festival; past themes have included \u2018people and nature\u2019 and \u2018biodiversity\u2019. 2024’s theme is Australia and Beyond!<\/em><\/strong> www.brittanytourism.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
