{"id":2405,"date":"2009-08-03T17:32:58","date_gmt":"2009-08-03T16:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/?p=2405"},"modified":"2018-06-29T13:44:39","modified_gmt":"2018-06-29T11:44:39","slug":"calais-attractions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/calais-attractions\/","title":{"rendered":"Calais attractions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of us hit the autoroute as soon as landing (or de-training) in <strong>Calais<\/strong> (62 Pas-de-Calais, <em>Hauts de France<\/em>) and heading South (or East), the most frequent diversion being for shopping in one of the Hypermarkets or the Cit\u00e9 Europe complex at <strong>Coquelles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2406 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/citedentelle.jpg\" alt=\"cit\u00e9 dentelle Calais\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/>However, there are other reasons to stop in the local area such as the <strong>Calais Lace Museum<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.citedentelle.calais.fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cit\u00e9 Internationale de la dentelle et de la mode de Calais<\/a>) which is a must see. Located in an original lace factory building, visitors can see original working Victorian lace machines and a stunning array of exhibits including a display of original lace clothes and fashion through the centuries. At the final gallery, visitors can use a special camera, which shows themselves dressed in any of the museum\u2019s lace clothes \u2013 in 3D.<\/p>\n<p>Just a 10 minute drive from <strong>Calais<\/strong>, the quaint, reconstructed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.st-joseph-village.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saint-Joseph Village<\/a> offers a glimpse of what life was like in rural France between 1900 and 1950.
