{"id":13568,"date":"2014-03-26T10:44:30","date_gmt":"2014-03-26T10:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/frenchduck.com\/?p=13568"},"modified":"2025-03-15T10:02:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-15T10:02:19","slug":"loire-boat-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/loire-boat-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Loire boat festival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every year <strong>Le Thoureil<\/strong> (49 Maine-et-Loire, <em>Pays de la Loire<\/em>) holds an annual Loire boat festival, <em>F\u00eate du Thoureil<\/em> which takes place on <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-central-palette-2-color\"><strong>3 &#8211; 4  May 2025<\/strong> <\/mark> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ot-saumur.fr\/28-04-FETE-DES-BATEAUX-DE-LOIRE-AU-THOUREIL_a17917.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/thoureil.jpg\" alt=\"Loire Fetival\" class=\"wp-image-13623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/thoureil.jpg 299w, https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/thoureil-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Loire is the longest river in France, originating in the C\u00e9vennes mountains in the Massif Central and flowing over 1000km to the Atlantic ocean at <strong>St Nazaire<\/strong> (44 Loire Atlantique, <em>Pays de la Loire<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/unesco.jpg\" alt=\"unesco\" class=\"wp-image-13609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/unesco.jpg 200w, https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/unesco-150x120.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The central part of the Loire has been recognised as a <strong>UNESCO<\/strong> World Heritage site: &#8220;an exceptional cultural landscape, of great beauty, comprised of historic cities and villages, great architectural monuments \u2013 the Ch\u00e2teaux \u2013 and lands that have been cultivated and shaped by centuries of interaction between local populations and their physical environment, in particular the Loire itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Loire has always been a river of contrasts &#8211; historically being subject to both floods and droughts &#8211; and caught between pressures to make the river navigable or retaining it as a &#8220;wild river&#8221;. It was never an easy river to navigate and was bypassed by canals for several sections of its length &#8211; e.g. the Canal Lateral de la Loire. Today there is a Loire Cycle path along the length of the river &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cycling-loire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Loire \u00e0 Velo<\/a> including the stretch by <strong>Le Thoureil.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lasting impression is of a slow and lazy river, perfect for fishing or relaxing. However, for this Festival you can get to see traditional sailing boats, go for a boat ride and visit some craft stalls.
