The town of Grasse<\/strong> (06 Alpes-Maritimes, Provence PACA<\/em>) is famous for being the heart of the Provencal perfumery industry with evocative names such as Fragonard to entice you. Set up in the hills back from the Mediterranean coast, Grasse<\/strong> celebrates its 3-day Fete du Jasmin<\/em><\/strong> (Grasse Jasmine Festival) from 5 – 7 August 2022<\/strong><\/span>. The festival marks the beginning of the Jasmine harvest and features fireworks, dancing and a Jasmine parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most visitors to Provence head for the spectacular Mediterranean coast and stylish seaside resorts, but you are missing much of the best of Provence if you don’t venture inland, where the scenery is stunning – and you can get great views of the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A young woman with cheeks painted Aunt Sally red throws a garland of white flowers towards me. I stretch up and catch it. Large silk petals frame the woman\u2019s glowing face. She looks just like a flower. She\u2019s just one of the smiling flower queens aboard a carnival float festooned with blossoms and posies. As float after float \u2013 all as colourful as fireworks \u2013 pass by, I can\u2019t help but join in with the cheers coming from the exuberant crowd.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I’m watching the main parade of the annual Jasmine Festival held in Grasse, a small Proven\u00e7al town tucked away in the hilltops of the French Riviera. Jasmine may be a small flower but the power of its heavenly scent \u2013 as well as the exquisite fragrances of other blooms grown here, including roses, mimosa, lavender and orange blossom \u2013 has attracted the world\u2019s best perfume houses and \u201cnoses\u201d, creating a thriving perfume industry that has provided thousands of jobs for the region.
