The winemakers of the Coteaux du Quercy AOP celebrate their annual wine fair ( la f\u00eate du vin des Coteaux du Quercy <\/em>) at Castelnau-Montratier<\/strong> (46 Lot, Occitanie<\/em>) on 7 August 2022<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located between Montauban<\/strong> and Cahors<\/strong> (46 Lot, Occitanie<\/em>), these red and rose wines are unusually (for the south of France) based on Cabernet Franc (40\u201360% of the blend) with Malbec, Tannat, and Gamay being the other allowed varieties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name \u201cQuercy<\/strong>\u201d comes from the latin \u201cquercus\u201d for oak \u2013 and was the name given to a large area of South West France until the current departement system was introduced in 1790. The Coteaux du Quercy area was known as \u201cBas Quercy\u201d and is dominated by the high \u201cCausses\u201d or moorland which still has a lot of \u201cscrub oaks\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n

You will often find the wines of the Coteaux du Quercy in and around Cahors<\/strong> in the Lot Valley. People often see the Coteaux du Quercy wines as the “second” wine of Cahors, but are quite different styles, much less dominated by the Malbec grape, Often vinified as a fruity ros\u00e9! (The Cahors wine appellation can only apply to red wines.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
