(e.g. Calais to Biarritz is over 1000km but Bilbao to Biarritz is 150km!)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"259\" height=\"126\" src=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/brittanyferries_newhybrid.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45866\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Brittany Ferries to Spain\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/link\/brittany-ferries\/brittany-ferries-to-spain\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Brittany Ferries<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Portsmouth\/Plymouth to <strong>Santander<\/strong>\/<strong>Bilbao  <\/strong>&#8211; this route can still cut driving times considerably (and you will avoid the need for an overnight hotel en route) if you are heading for Bordeaux and Southwest France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-north-and-east-uk\">from North and East UK:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hull &#8211; Zeebrugge or Rotterdam<\/strong> with <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"P&amp;O Ferries\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/link\/ferries\/po-ferries\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">P&amp;O Ferries<\/a> &#8211; although <strong>Zeebrugge<\/strong> is in Belgium and <strong>Rotterdam<\/strong> is in the Netherlands, with fast motorway links <strong>Zeebrugge<\/strong> is still only about 3.5 hours to <strong>Paris<\/strong> (306km), whereas Calais &#8211; Paris is 288km! and you avoid the M25 around London! And if you are heading to Eastern France if makes even more sense, avoiding both London and Paris!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"h-channel-tunnel-le-shuttle-eurostar\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-central-palette-2-color\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Channel Tunnel<\/strong><\/span> Le Shuttle\/<strong>Eurostar<\/strong><\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frequent departures and no weather problems or delays &#8211; just 25 minutes in your own vehicle with no luggage restrictions, but can be more expensive than the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Eurotunnel\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchduck.com\/latest\/link\/ferries\/eurotunnel\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Eurotunnel\/Le Shuttle<\/a><\/strong>  (this is the tunnel train for vehicles) -Folkestone &#8211;
