Orléans, capital of the Centre-Val-de-Loire région and of the Loiret departement is located just an hour from Paris (by car or by train). To the north of Orléans are the plains of the Beauce and the largest forest in France, the “forêt d’Orléans”. In the south, the Sologne with its ponds/lakes. Orléans is a typical town of the Loire Valley and benefits both from a rich history and the special environment of the Loire Valley. Vinegar and mustard are the gastronomic specialties of the city. And historically Orleans is associated with Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’Arc) also known as the “maid of Orleans”. The departement is home to some impressive Loire Chateaux including Sully-sur-Loire, Chamerolles and La Bussières.
