22 Cotes d’Armor

Region: Brittany (Bretagne)PrefectureSaint-Brieuc

In northern Brittany, a few miles from the Mont Saint-Michel and Saint Malo – tranquil shores to lush green countryside, Côtes d’Armor is a place steeped in legend, whose rich maritime past and eventful history have left their mark on its culture and architecture. (www.brittanytourism.com/)

some highlights
  • Saint Malo – an historic port with its walled town and remparts – La Cité Intra-Muros, ideal for walking and beaches – see Hotel De France et Chateaubriand in the heart of the old city, yet near the beaches and with sea view,
  • Dinan – a charming riverside town, with medieval history, a 13th century castle and ramparts that encircle the town. In July (originally scheduled for 19- 20 July in 2020) the Fête des Remparts (Festival of the Ramparts) takes place, a festival recreating the town in medieval times with street celebrations,  market and a jousting tournament
  • Dinard –  with its Belle Époque villas and stripy beach tents, is like taking a trip back to the 19th century. The most British of Brittany’s resorts is popular with families who are attracted by its sandy beaches and coastal walks. All this just across the estuary from the ferry port of Saint Malo – recommended hotel = Hotel Didier Meril, Dinardperched on a cliff overlooking the Emerald Coast (Cote d’Emeraude)Hotel Didier Meril, Dinard
