Royan – Music Festival on the beach!

20 – 26 July 2019 The Atlantic resort of Royan (17 Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle Aquitaine) holds an annual music festival including concerts on the Beach – Un Violon sur le Sable – A violin on the sand!

logoThere  are classical and opera performances and major concerts of film, shows and popular music held on the beach at 10pm – and entry to the beach is free!

This annual festival of classical music takes place outdoors on the main beach at Royan each July and attracts tens of thousands of spectators over a three day period. It is undoubtedly the most popular and important ‘spectacle’ of the Royan tourist season and is certainly not to be missed.

You can book tickets for the formal seating (price about 30 euros per person in 2015) from the ticket kiosk on the seafront or online. Alternatively you can simply turn up and find a spot on the beach or the promenade to watch the spectacle free of charge on what will, hopefully, be balmy, starry summer evenings!

Hotel Reve de Sable

Stay in a small hotel very close to the beach Hotel Reve de Sable (Sand Dreams)

Royan has a long history as a seaside resort and benefits from a micro-climate on a par with the Mediterranean coast. It was one of the very first resorts in France to arise from the newly discovered fashion for sea-bathing at the start of the 20th century. Today it remains very much a place that the French choose when they go on holiday.Fantastic Atlantic coast beaches stretch for several kilometres either side of the town and are arguably the finest in France. They offer a choice ranging from child-friendly beaches near the town to the wild unspoilt beauty of the Cote Sauvage where you can find tranquility even in the height of the season.   The Guide describes all the best local beaches with locations, nearby facilities, where to find parking and which are good for surfing and which are good for just lazing in the sun. www.royan.co.uk/
